EVP - Electronic Voice Phenomena/Phenomenon are "spirit voices" that are said to manifest themselves on audio recordings (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

These are the techniques that we use to record EVP's -

Larry and I use a digital voice recorder (RCA model RP5010) without an external microphone.  Our settings are: volume on the highest level, highest quality for recording, conference, voice activation turned either on or off (both ways work for us). When doing recordings in our home, we do not use white noise, such as a radio being tuned to between stations so only the 'white noise' is audible.  (This is the only  recorder we've ever tried. Other kinds of recorders would probably work as well).

First of all, before ever recording, we say a prayer of protection.  Larry and I sometimes ask the Spirits questions, like what is their name, etc...waiting about 20 seconds in between each question before asking another one.  We always show them respect, and thank them at the end of each session.  Sometimes we just turn the recorder on without saying anything.  On average, we record for 10 - 15 minutes.  A cemetery, an old, vacant state mental hospital and our home have been places where we have been successful at recording EVP's.

WavePad is used to edit our recordings. For clarity, we may need to remove a little hum or hiss or use auto spectral noise reduction (applied to voice) and amplify.  The speed is never altered. We try to keep the editing to a minimum.  Larry and I often find there is another message when the recording is played in reverse.  You can listen to the reverse of some of our EVP's here, along with other 'spirit voice' recordings.

Hopefully, the techniques that we use will be of help to you.  Have a little persistence, patience.  And don't be disappointed if you do not get an EVP the very first time.  Just keep on trying, eventually you will succeed!  And when you do, you will have proven to yourself that EVP's are indeed real.  For, at one time, we both were skeptics...but not any more.
